4 soldaten uit VS gesneuveld in Afghanistan

Bij een aanval met een bermbom zijn zaterdag in de Zuid-Afghaanse provincie Kandahar drie Amerikaanse militairen omgekomen. Een vierde Amerikaan sneuvelde zaterdag in de Oost-Afghaanse provincie Logar.

Dat heeft het Amerikaanse ministerie van Defensie zondag bekendgemaakt. De drie soldaten in Kandahar overleden aan de verwondingen die ze opliepen bij de explosies van een bermbom.

De soldaat in Logar kwam om het leven toen het voertuig waarin hij zat over de kop sloeg bij een aanval van opstandelingen, aldus het Pentagon.

De dood van de militairen brengt het totaal aantal Amerikanen dat dit jaar in Afghanistan is omgekomen op 371.

Washington heeft momenteel ongeveer 90.000 troepen in het Aziatische land gestationeerd. Het is de bedoeling dat aan het eind van 2014 al de Amerikaanse gevechtstroepen uit Afghanistan zijn teruggetrokken.


DOD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

They died Oct.22, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.

Killed were:

1st. Lt. Ashley I. White, 24, of Alliance, Ohio, assigned to 230th Brigade Support Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, North Carolina National Guard, Goldsboro, N.C.

Sgt. 1st Class Kristoffer B. Domeij, 29, of San Diego, Calif., and Pfc.Christopher A. Horns, 20, of Colorado Springs, Colo., both assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

Sgt. Paul A. Rivera, 26, of Round Rock, Texas, died Oct. 22, in Logar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered in a vehicle rollover during an attack by enemy forces. He was assigned to the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Hohenfels, Germany.
